The Learnbase Approach

We uniquely integrate Integral Theory, specifically Ken Wilber’s Four Quadrant model, with modern learning philosophies to craft a comprehensive approach to adult learning and technology design. The Four Quadrant model categorizes human experiences not just into internal and external realms, but also into individual and collective dimensions—each providing a different perspective on the learning process.

Integral to our methodology, the Learning Focus Map utilizes this model to guide educational planning. It captures the internal, individual aspects like emotions and motivations, alongside external, individual interactions with tangible content. Simultaneously, it considers the collective internal elements such as shared values and culture, as well as the external, organizational structures that shape learning environments.

This integration ensures our approach is holistic, addressing all facets of the learning spectrum to align projects with broader organizational goals. Our framework not only identifies developmental gaps but provides structured guidance for comprehensive educational planning. We balance various learning theories to ensure a rich and inclusive educational environment.

Practical Implementation

In practice, our methodology emphasizes creating deep connections between new knowledge and existing frameworks, making learning both personal and impactful. We focus on transformative experiences that alter learners’ perspectives and behaviors significantly, fostering both personal growth and broader societal impact.

Technological and Creative Solutions

Selecting the right technology and crafting innovative learning solutions are pivotal to enhancing these experiences. With a foundation in user experience, digital media, and educational psychology, we ensure that our solutions are effective, innovative, and transformative. Collaborating closely with subject matter experts, we develop high-quality educational materials, leveraging diverse professional strengths to enrich the learning journey.

Through this integrated approach, we transform traditional learning models into more authentic, innovative, and integral experiences. Our method does not merely meet immediate educational needs but also equips learners and organizations to pursue their long-term goals, making our approach deeply impactful and broadly applicable.

Production

Storyboarding

To design meaningful, transformative learning, ask yourself the following:

How can we encourage the learners to prepare mentally and create spaces that not only minimize distractions but also enhance their overall focus?

  • Grounding activities
  • Inviting them to observe their surroundings and take the time to prepare the space for learning

How can we make learning emotionally engaging and allow the user to tap into their emotions while they learn?

  • Posting questions regarding their emotional state
  • Allowing time to realize what the content evokes them
  • Connect with their motivations by reflecting on what the course means to them

How can we encourage learners to think deeply and apply what they learn in real-life scenarios?

  • Include questions about how to put their learning into practice (linking to the social impact).

How can we interact with the learner in a format that is innately “individual”?

  • Including empathic comments “You might think…”
  • Think about what happens after they do something. Never leavelet them hanging. For example, if they’re writing an answer to a question, give them something back.
  • Introduce discovery questions (impact related)

How can we support learners in becoming more aware of their own learning strategies and challenges, helping them to learn more effectively?

  • Questions can be a powerful tool to ignite introspection and reflect on their learning process.
  • Allow them to test what they know before and after introspectively (identifying the gap).

Structure

  • Include a course description with a little guide on how to navigate and what to expect
  • Don’t repeat titles (if possible)
  • Avoid any type of links that would take users elsewhere (add in resource section)
  • Keep in mind the concept’s hierarchies to structure the content (visually it must be evident that same hierarchies are being treated equally)
  • Space efficiency, everything at a glance

Design

Design with RISE

  • The lesson header should be smaller and on a white background
  • Don’t have huge colour blocks
  • Add the videos as a thumbnail and add them to Vimeo
  • Don’t have huge banners with text
  • Avoid huge blocks of text
  • Attention to what the images represent (relation between text and images)
  • Watch out for the CC line in the videos
  • Use icons to note the activities e.g. Reflect and Activity
  • Don’t have images with text
  • Images should always be high-resolution
RISE within the Visual Navigator
  • Space efficiency, everything at a glance

Design with Storyline

  • Avoid duplicating text and audio, instead use icons and once the audio is done, text can appear

Videos

  • The gestalt: making sure that the style is cohesive throughout the video and among the different videos in a project.
  • Ask yourself: is this better than what someone could do if they weren’t a professional? What’s the added value?
